Dr. John Sweeney, North Brunswick High School Class of 1995 graduate, has returned to his hometown of Leland to live and practice dentistry, after graduating from the UNC School of Dentistry last year. Dr. Sweeney and his wife Kim, who is also from Leland and a North Brunswick graduate, attended and graduated from East Carolina University together, before marrying and moving to Chapel Hill. They moved home last May to be close to their families for the birth and raising of their daughter Mia, who just had her first birthday. Aside from practicing general dentistry, Dr. Sweeney enjoys playing guitar and basketball, but even Kim admits that surfing is his first love. He is happy to be home, close to family, and close to the beach!

While attending the UNC School of Dentistry, John represented his class as President of the UNC School of Dentistry Chapter of the American Dental Association. This position allowed him to serve in the American Dental Association House of Delegates, representing the American Student Dental Association and led to his appointment as National Consultant on State Society Issues. Throughout his years in dental school, he was recognized by his classmates and faculty on several occasions, receiving scholarship awards. In his final year, upon graduation, Dr. Sweeney was awarded the American College of Dentists Leadership Award and the North Carolina Academy of General Dentistry Award for Outstanding Senior Dental Student. Dr. Sweeney is an active member in the American Dental Association, North Carolina Dental Society, and the Academy of General Dentistry. |
